People Architect and Change Catalyst
People Operations
Mountain View, CA

This is a fixed-term contract position for 12 months

About X, the Moonshot Factory

X is a diverse group of inventors and entrepreneurs who build and launch technologies that aim to improve the lives of millions, even billions, of people. Our goal: 10x impact on the world’s most intractable problems, not just 10% improvement. We approach projects that have the aspiration and riskiness of research with the speed and ambition of a startup.

About the Team:

Our team in X is responsible for creating the environment that enables X and Xers to repeatedly take moonshots of the highest quality. Our team is composed of expert storytellers, talent attractors, data scientists, operations experts, and people architects who help Xers and the outside world know the why and how of what we work on as we enable the moonshot factory to deliver with the greatest efficiency and effect across all of our ambitious projects.

We’re based in Mountain View, CA and operate with a majority in person culture.

About the role:

Calling all dreamers, innovators, and boundary-pushers! We're on a mission to redefine the end to end employee experience in our innovation lab. In this role you'll collaborate with a diverse team of experts to co-design and deliver an immersive experience that lifts our workforce to new heights of engagement, purpose, and belonging.

The purpose of the Xer People Architect & Change Catalyst Lead is to ensure that X attracts, recruits and retains  people who are going to love building moonshots, are excited about our ways of working and are set up to have clear expectations about what success looks like at X. We want people to have thoroughly understood X before joining so that they can make clear choices on whether this unusual environment is really for them, and then to be supported in that journey as they come to experience it first hand. So as people join us to become Xers or partners, you and your team will provide an exceptionally good, and X-aligned experience for them that reinforces and helps them internalize X’s mission, values and cultural norms. While they’re with us, you’ll ensure that all the processes, signals and touch-points that  Xers had through their journey, including how we apply rewards and recognition, reinforce our culture and key messages - and delivering this with simple and effective support systems to keep everything running with highest ROI.

The ideal candidate will naturally create the throughline from X’s mission, values and strategy to deliver continuous improvement through both direct action and influence within the organization; they will work across multiple functions inside and outside of their direct team, to ensure that the overall experience is coherent, delightful and aligned. We’d be interested in applications from candidates who have experience of user centered design, product management and/or people systems and services, and who might be well versed in change management too. A natural tendency to embrace rapid learning  (with a solid track record of making brave mistakes in the past!), and the ability to quickly distill facts from noise to make impactful progress and innovation, will enable the successful lead to have the impact they are seeking; X rapidly iterates, evolves and leans into ambiguity, with an ability to do more with less and take a resourceful approach! We’re looking for someone who will be a role model of these behaviours and ways of being, amplifying and embedding them across the factory.

How you will make 10x impact:

  • Co-Creation & Design: Collaborate with a diverse team of functional experts to create and/or evolve  the next iteration of our end-to-end employee experience. Your collective design will foster connection, motivation, and inspiration, ensuring our employees feel valued, empowered, and aligned with our shared vision.
  • Change Mastery: As a seasoned change agent, you will guide our organization through the transformation of our Employee Lifecycle experience. Your change management strategy will weave a narrative of change, engaging hearts and minds while minimizing disruption and resistance.
  • Communication Sorcery: Your executive communications skills will ensure that our vision for the employee experience is not only heard but also embraced at the highest levels of our organization.
  • Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Weaver: Infuse our employee experience with the threads of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Your expertise in EID will ensure that all of our systems and processes everyone feels  seen, heard, and valued for their unique contributions, fostering a workplace culture where everyone can thrive.

What you should have:

  • Ideally you should have experience of:
    • Leading teams / organizations through significant change management.
    • Experience drafting and landing communications strategies (audiences ranging from executives to IC’s)
    • Experience of integrating equity, diversity and inclusion processes, practices and programmes into you and yours teams work
    • User centered design and/or product management
    • Underpinning HR, people ops etc systems common to most organizations, and demonstrable experience of tailoring to an organization’s needs
    • Delivery through influence and demonstrable stakeholder management, including at senior levels

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way.
